We recently had a trip to Ikea, and whilst it isn’t the cheap place it once was (even the meatballs meal seems expensive now!) we did manage to get some USB items to help with charging the various electronics we have here. Now as nearly all USB devices now use USB-C (yay Apple) I went for a single USB-C charger with a really decent USB-C cable. It might be overkill but at a later date I could get an even higher powered charger and it will actually charge my laptop, so with this in mind I bought a Sjöss single 30 watt USB-C charger with PD (power delivery the standard meaning the charger will basically work with anything) plus a Lillhut 1.5m USB-C to USB-C cable. Total cost was £10 but the cable is rated up to 3A and is a woven cable. The cheaper plastic cable is 1m long and costs a reasonable £2.50 for a better cable than the cheap ones you normally see. Various combinations of chargers and cables are available and whilst not the cheapest then the better than cheap quality appears well worth it. This review is really short as both the charger and cable are good quality, fairly reasonable in price and perform really well. Both my mobile phones charge at the fastest speeds they support, and the cable also works in our new car for charging AND data transfer! The cable also comes with a nifty elasticated loop meaning you can wrap it up securely when you take it with you. Like I said with 30w available from the charger most things including laptops will charge, though 30W means a laptop will only charge slowly. There is a 45w charger available, but even that is pretty low powered and if you want to charge a laptop regularly then 65w is the recommended power output. So to end this quick review – both the items perform exactly as expected, the charger doesn’t get overly hot either and the cable is of excellent quality and a decent length of 1.5m. If you need an even better cable then the top of the range one from Ikea is good for 100w. Both include overheat protection as well! I’m happy with these and would recommend!
