Sony finished making recordable optical media ie cd-r, dvd-r and recordable blu ray discs on 4th July in Japan. I have asked around and most manufacturers are winding down production as demand is so weak with one supplier saying he expects that 2024 is the last year he will be selling recordable discs in any volume, and he is currently at around 2% of what he was about 5 years ago. So musicians and audio fans, it is time to start getting stocked up if you want to continue with physical media. Despite this news sales of manufactured blu rays and dvds is holding firm, but cds are all but finished according to my sources – though levels are between 5 – 10% of their peak and have been that way for a couple of years.
