I have recently upgraded my monitor setup with 2 x 1080p monitors on my music pc and it begged the question about are they worth it in 2024? Well for me, yes totally, but maybe not for everyone!
So above is my setup, with Ableton on one screen and Beam on the t’other. As plugins and software requires more processing time and graphics processing needs lower powered computers and especially laptops will struggle to run 2 screens well. If you are using the system to livestream AND power music software then unless it is a pretty beefy system I don’t recommend it. I have seen so many streams that are awful because the system(s) can’t handle it. However, today even a low power system can make use of 2 screens. As shown above there is just so much more you can do with 2 screens, perhaps Ableton on one screen and a plugin on the t’other for example….
The flexibility is great but I guess that a modern day 4k screen could also be as useful except there are more options for 2 screens. Ableton, for example, has options to use a second screen well….
So do I think it’s worth it? Yes, totally, if your system can handle it. If not – then a decent high resolution screen makes better sense! As software gets more resource hungry though having an upgrade to dual screens with the added increase in productivity it brings often helps! Just a thought…
