I recently came across decent sampler, a free sampler with some really nice libraries. Now you do have to register with an email and login, but that is only really to manage the libraries including paid for versions. I know some people won’t be happy about this but for me the quality and amount of free content seems worth it! I was informed about this by Venus Theory who is on youtube and he has made a fair few libraries for Decent Sampler and the latest one is Auras Polyscape which you can get from the link below
https://venustheory.gumroad.com/l/vtpolyscape
The installer gives you a standalone version which actually supports ASIO as well plus VST, AU and AAX versions too. If you log in the simple UI gives you access to various sample libraries and if you download others, just placing them in the correct folder makes them available. It really is that simple. The libraries are fairly varied but seem to be mostly ambient soundscapes etc. This isn’t a problem just seems to be how it has turned out so far. I had zero crashes during testing and it works well and is fast. I have not created any libraries yet but that also appears to be pretty simple if you did fancy doing that. CPU useage is decent as well with it being unnoticeable in the standalone and in Ableton it was showing around a 2% utilisation on my system with occasional peaks up to 10% which any half modern system could use with ease! This plugin is really this simple that I can’t say much more. It works, works well and is available for Windows, Mac AND Linux and sounds great….
This is how plugins should be – free OR otherwise
Decent Sampler
Free sampler plugin with a wide range of libraries both paid and free. Works well and is available on Windows, Mac AND Linux
Pros
Easy to use
Good price
Sounds great!
Cons
Only as good as the libraries and that is personal choice. You can make your own easily though!
Small UI looks a bit lost on a 4K screen
