Sonicbits Exakt Review!

Sonicbits have updated Exakt their FM synth plugin which included the extra waveforms from the TX81Z, and 4 extra TX waveforms. There are also a chorus, distortion and stereo delay! There is also the little baby Exakt Lite which omits the distortion and delay but is FREE.

Exakt is available now and the latest version is 1.1.0 which has 12-bit DAC emulation and 50 extra presets from Warkauze. Sound is exactly as you’d expect it, and there are some decent presets including a lately bass kinda sound! I have got to admit it does the DX7 style FM synths well enough, and at $29 the price is decent enough. Check out the product page for some sound demos and also there is a trial version available to test drive it! It works well, cpu usage is low and it sounds great. The review really is that simple. The free version is good enough to use and then the price/performance is outstanding!

Sonicbits Exakt V1.1.0 Review!

8 out of 10
$29
exakt

Decent FM synth with FX. Like Ronseal it does exactly what it is supposed to do! Only drawback is the free version is good enough for most people, although $29 is cheap for a decent plugin.

Stability and Performance
9 out of 10
Stability and performance aren't an issue at all. Zero crashes for me in testing
Ease of Use
7 out of 10
Easy to use though FM synthesis needs more work to understand than say analogue synthesis
Look & Feel
9 out of 10
Does a decent job of conveying the controls and works well. Not the most colourful of GUIs though
Price
7 out of 10
$29 is decent but if anything the free lite version is good enough considering it does 90% of the paid for version.

Pros

Easy to use

Good price

Low cpu usage

Cons

The free version does 90% of the paid version!

It is still FM although sounds great

Perhaps more FX to differentiate from the free version!

    Thanks for the nice review!
Actually the full version also has got more presets, sysex import, loopable envelopes with up to 16 points and 2 LFos and mod envelopes. The lite version also doesn’t have the DAC emulation, it also has less waveforms and FM algorithms.

    Best wishes

Hi Kay – thanks for the comment. Yes it has, my reviews are deliberately short and to the point. I will amend when I have chance though!
