Today the UK has announced large restrictions on social media and livestreaming for kids with a total ban for the under 16s and restrictions (not confirmed yet) for under 18s. However in a move which seems a bit bizarre livestreaming is included in these plans, with Twitch, Kick and Youtube all included in these measures. Now bearing in mind that in Australia the social media ban is widely seen as a failure – I really cannot see how this is going to make any difference at all, except just kill livestreaming for many. Too many loopholes, too many things that a livestreamer will have to now do in the UK to make sure he complies, I guess the UK livestreaming scene will decline rapidly! As usual, legislation is way behind the times and in this case seems like an afterthought for a government to deflect away from its other significant issues like defence budgets and spending and how it keeps on failing with inflation and the cost of living! I also had to laugh as Two Tier Keir managed to bring in a two tier plan for social media bans despite him hating his nickname…
